Pre-K is creating art about shapes. All other grades are incorporating their name into an artwork.
This week is still about reviewing the Art Room rules, filling out an interest inventory so I can get to know them better, and making their portfolio. Our first project this year is all about their names. Art classes this week are a bit scattered. Those classes that I see will be wrapping up their projects from the past week. This includes the Pattern pictures inspired by John Biggers for K-3 and the Geometric Shape pictures inspired by Paul Klee's city scapes. for 4th and 5th grade. When 3-5 finish their work, I'll be sharing how to fold and cut six pointed snowflakes. For K-3, we'll be exercising their creativity with the circle challenge described here: http://www.senseandsensation.com/2012/03/assessing-creativity.html. I'll be encouraging them to come up with many, unique designs.
